He combines scientific research as Scientific Director of BTI Biotechnology Institute with private clinical practice, in addition to directing the University Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Oral Implantology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and presiding over the Foundation that bears his name.
Dr Eduardo Anitua is internationally recognised as a pioneer in the development of techniques in bioimplantology and tissue regeneration, as well as the creator of the Platelet-Rich Growth Factor (Endoret®) technology and its application across various fields of medicine—from oral and maxillofacial surgery to orthopaedics, sports medicine, dermatology, aesthetic medicine, and more recently ophthalmology, reproductive medicine, and general surgery—thus contributing to the improvement of thousands of patients’ quality of life each year.
He holds 64 international patents and is the author of over 370 scientific articles published in indexed journals (some of which are among the 10 most cited articles worldwide in Oral Surgery), hundreds more in clinical journals, as well as 30 books and surgical manuals across different areas of medicine. His scientific productivity and impact are reflected in an H-index of 80 and over 30,000 accumulated citations. Furthermore, the Stanford Ranking (Ranking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists) has consistently recognised Anitua as the most influential Spanish dentist in the world since 2019, currently ranking 48th globally.
Awarded the National Innovation Award 2021 in the “Innovative Career” category, “for exceptionally embodying the spirit of innovation in the service of people and the improvement of their health and quality of life, as an indisputable example of successful knowledge transfer and public-private collaboration.”
He has spoken at over 1,000 national and international events on oral implantology and regenerative medicine and has been a visiting professor at more than 50 universities, both internationally and nationally.
